RECORD HIJACK

Image Making

PROJECT GUIDE: Lu Liang

at Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague.

A series of upcycled record covers made by collaging. Taking discarded vinyl records from thrift stores, these new covers were made for current music chosen by my classmates. An exercise in obsessions, music, and cutting paper to put it next to other cut pieces of paper.

The goal was to create all the covers using found material, rather than engineered visuals. This aimed at reclaiming a seemingly lost physical relationship we have with the music we listen to.

This 'Disclaimer' sticker was stuck to the backs of all the record covers, signifying what this hijack stood for. The upcycling made an otherwise rejected item into a desired collectible object. The sticker instills an understanding in the viewer and marks a Hijack Movement in time.
